I write books for my daughter and put her name and pictures in each story. I have been told by family that others may be interested in having this done for their children. How realistic is a market like this? Has anyone tried it before and have advise?
My wife and I recently contacted a dentist to make a first ever appointment for our 3 1/2 year old daughter. A few days later we received a letter addressed to her from the dentist’s office and in it was a storybook about a child’s first visit to the dentist. My daughter was the main character as they used her name throughout.
I checked the back of the book and saw "dentasaurus". I just searched it on Yahoo and it found www.dentasaurus.com which is a company that does that sort of thing but I guess for the dental industry.
I don’t know whether you can contact someone there and ask for advice but it’s a place to start at least.
It’s being done right now. You can even find people doing it on eBay. But go ahead and join the club.

Try it on your friends first. Maybe do a few freebies and see how it goes over

Books like this already exist. I have one for each of my children. The price I paid was only 10 dollars each. They are cute and I am the only one of my friends that bothered to have them made for my kids.

Since the market already exists, ask yourself,
"How can I enter this market and differentiate myself?"
You may want to buy what some of the others are offering to see how you can do something better or more personalized.
Franly I’m all for making something REALLY nice – using highest quality materials and asking a HIGH price for it. My theory is I’d rather sell one thing at $10.00 than 10 things at $1.00 but to do that you have to really be different and upscale.
