Talking about my first Xmas holiday visit home in years…

I visit my family about twice a year, but haven’t been home for Xmas for quite some time (4 years or so) and I also have not seen my mom’s brothers (twins) and their families since I came out as trans*. Things went…..okay. I did have to shave off all facial hair before seeing my uncles and their wives and kids. My mom made me a stocking with my new nickname on it, which is a big deal. I guess she retired my girl nickname one, which she made when she was pregnant with me. I met my sister’s boyfriend (he also had a stocking made for him) and received a card from my mom that said that she understands that I am on a journey both physically and spiritually. Over all, not a bad visit. Onwriting a novel (7th grader writing a novel that is 70 pages in, with plans for 5 other books in the series!) even used male pronouns for me, which was immediately self-corrected, since we were around my Gran & Grandad. But she grinned at me which let me know that she will be fine referring to me as male. I love all of my cousins and had really missed seeing cousins from my mom’s side in the last 4 years. Youngest cousin on that side is in 3rd grade and the oldest was just confirmed Catholic a week or so ago. (15 years old, 10th grade, writes her own lyrics and music!) I’m assuming a lot about my cousins on my mom’s side, since we did not get time to talk about my transition or “new” identity, as we were at my grandparents’ house during our visit.
