Friday, September 10th, 2010 07:00 PM – 09:00 PM Front Lines: Original Works on War & Life A VOX Reading Series Event Come and have your mind stimulated by the fifth VOX Reading Series Event at ATHICA during which local writers’ theme-specific works enhance the discourse around the exhibits. The night’s four writers—-keynote Dr. Chris Cuomo and poets Melisa Cahnmann-Taylor, Ashley David and Heidi Lynn Staples–were selected by 2010-2011 VOX Committee and ATHICA’s Artistic Director Lizzie Zucker Saltz to address the issues in Mission Accomplished, and exhibit that focuses on war’s effects on society. It is doubly poignant that takes place on the eve before the anniversary of 9/11, coincident with the many recent news stories about the Iraq war pull-out. Heidi Lynn Staples is new to our stage, and we look forward to hearing her and all of these talented and widely published authors’ works in what promises to be a stimulating and moving all-women, all-out ‘war-of-words’ on war. VOX is affiliated with the University of Georgia’s Creative Writing Dept. The VOX Reading Series brings both emerging and established writers to Athens, as well as provides a stage for graduate students in the UGA Creative Writing Program. Founded in 2004 as an independently student-run series, VOX held events in venues throughout Athens until 2007, when, with the financial support of the Creative Writing Program, it moved to its current home venue, the Cine art theater. Antonia Nelson “Chapter 2″ Book reading at Creighton University

The Creighton University Department of English and Creative Writing Program will present a reading by award-winning fiction writers Robert Boswell and Antonya Nelson on November 14. Antonya Nelson is the author of eight novels and story collections and is the winner of the Flannery O’Connor Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship and her books have often been chosen as New York Times notable books. Robert Phillips – UHV/ABR Reading Series – Part 3

DATE: Thursday 11/15/2007 SPEAKER: Robert Phillips is the author or editor of some 30 volumes of poetry, fiction, criticism, and belles lettres and publishes in numerous journals. A professor of English, he was director of the Creative Writing Program from 1991 to 1996 honors. In 1998, he was named a John and Rebecca Moore Scholar at the University of Houston. His honors include a Pushcart Prize, an American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters Award in Literature, a New York State Council on the Arts CAPS Grant in Poetry, a National Public Radio Syndicated Fiction Project Award, MacDowell Colony and Yaddo Fellowships, Texas Institute of Letters membership a 1996 Enron Teaching Excellence Award, and a Syracuse University Arents Pioneer Medal.
